I'm sure everybody wants to be happy. Happiness, like I said before, it's my favorite word. Sometimes I try so hard to find it. But then, I realize happiness lies within you. You just need to feel it.

Last week, I read a good book. Meet Your Happy Chemicals by Loretta Graziano Breuning. This book taught me how to be happy, based on science data. All you need is know more your body. In our body, we has happy chemical, something that help us to feel happy. They are dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphin. This book told me how to choose healthy ways to stimulate them. When you know the formula and know how your happy chemicals work, it will be easier to live a happy life ;)

Dopamine released whenever you expect a reward and it's what motivates you to keep seeking it. For example: I feel happy when practice karate for a tournament because I know if I work hard, I can get the best result, good performance in arena and win a medal. I know it will be tiring, but it's okay. The reward motivates me.

My lil' brother loves game so much. I tell him to study but he never like it. So to make him happy I promise to give him a new game if he gets good mark.

Endorphin is triggered by physical pain. Wait wait, physical pain? Seriously?

Of course something like physical pain does not make us happy, right? However, endorphin does and serves to hide the pain to help you keep going.

I practice yoga and pilates for 3 months, It's so painful. It's not easy for someone who practices karate like me. Karate taught me about speed and strength. But Yoga and pilates show me the strength in a calmness and patience. I still try to enjoy my yoga and pilates class because I know I need it. Learn to be calm and patient can make me become a better person in the future. And that's great.

After 3 months, I can feel it. I've a better concentration on Salat, sleep better and my body flexibility is increasing. Sure, it make me so happy!

Do you feel happy if you meet your best friends? Feel happy if you spend time with your lovely family? Yup, that's because oxytocin.

Oxytocin rewards you for building social alliances. The good feeling you get because you trust another person is because of the oxytocin that has been released in your brain. Healthy social life good for our life survival.

For example, we feel more safety and happy if we travel with our good friends than when we travel alone.

Serotonin is released when we assert our position in the social hierarchy by dominating others. Our brain rewards us whenever others respect our position in the social life. That's natural. Remember, those who dominate others have a better access to opportunities and have a pride of their self.

After I knew how my happy chemicals work, I always try to apply them in my life, to make me and people around me happy. Wanna try? :)
